23 years old, recent college grad (history major, German studies minor).
My tumblr is about stuff like history, cats, guinea pigs, FC Bayern Muenchen, the Dutch NT, the Netherlands, and a bit of social/political stuff. My favorite soccer player is Arjen Robben. My favorite teams are the Dutch National Team, FC Bayern, and FC Groningen. My favorite Dutch province is Groningen. My favorite books are probably Lolita, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Four Spirits, and The Book Thief. I love genealogy, reading, and knitting, among other things. I spend too much time on my computer.
This is attempts number two and three at a knitted geode. I would love to spend more time on these, making wonkier shapes, more colour options, just plain bigger versions. At the moment I’d be quite happy to spend the entire year knitting rocks, I’m not sure that the website would keep getting hits if I did though…
This World War I veteran wore his uniform to enter Santa Anita Park assembly center. He joined other people of Japanese ancestry evacuated from the West Coast during World War II.
Dorothea Lange took this photograph on April 5, 1942.
Just a few weeks before, on February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt had signed Executive Order 9066. The War Department used this order almost exclusively to intern thousands Americans of Japanese descent until the order was rescinded in 1944.
Today is the Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans interned during WWII. Read more about the Executive Order 9066 on the OurPresidents Tumblr.
